Do OnePlus Open 2’s Cameras Hide a Surprise Downgrade?
The Oppo Find n5 will launch Feb. 20th

After months of teasing their next generation foldable, Oppo has finally confirmed many details about the upcoming Find N5. It’s about damn time too because the hype for this and the eventual OnePlus rebadge as the Open 2 was reaching a fever pitch in the foldable community.
The first thing to talk about is that we finally have a confirmed launch date and time. Even though we had good reason to suspect February 20th would be the day, now we have that nailed down as well as a time for a streamed event. Exactly when the rebadged Open 2 will launch is a bit tougher to say. We do have Oppo referring to this as a “simultaneous global launch” so there’s an outside change that the Open 2 launches at the same time.
It’s also possible that it’ll lag behind a bit and that statement was only referring to the N5. That would explain the total radio silence from the OnePlus social media teams. Regardless, it won’t be long after the 20th, so get your wallets ready.
Colors
We also have this post on Weibo which shows three different colors we can expect. This lines up perfectly with the leak from Evan Blass I posted about a few days ago. There is a chance that the purple model is a Chinese exclusive though with the Oppo international account omitting it. That would be a bummer.
Oppo has long been claiming that the Find N5 would be the worlds thinnest foldable and we now have some good looks at exactly how thin it’ll be.

Hardware Specs
In terms of specs, a lot has been confirmed. We have the 50w wireless charging and 80w wired charging already confirmed, but now we can say fairly certainly that the battery will be 5,600mAh. This is certainly making use of the new silicon-carbon technology we’ve seen used in other recent handsets. Alongside 16GB of RAM we also have a slightly stripped back 7-Core variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This is likely being done to keep the device running cooler. When you’re barely 4mm thick, thermals can be a struggle.
It looks like the main screen will be 8.12” diagonal, up from the 7.82” screen of the last gen. That even make it slightly larger than the 8” Pixel 9 Pro Fold. There’s currently no word on the cover display size or the brightness of either panel.
Camera Downgrade?
For the cameras, we have long been told to expect a triple-50MP setup and it appears that was only 2/3 correct. While we are getting a 50MP primary and a 50MP 3x Telephoto, the ultrawide appears to be a rather disappointing 8MP sensor. This is interesting because typically it’s thought to be the Telephoto that takes up more space and is therefore downgraded in these ultra-thin devices. Last gen, we had a 48MP primary, a 64MP 3x Telephoto and a 48MP ultrawide. This is a place where it’s important to remember that megapixel count isn’t the only thing that matters.
If this is the same 50MP Primary sensor being used in the Oppo FindX8 Pro, it should actually be a nice improvement partially because the sensor itself is physically larger than the 48MP sensor from last year. For the Telephoto, again if we assume that they’re using the 50MP sensor from the X8 Pro we should see similar performance to last year. This new sensor is larger, although the pixels themselves are slightly smaller. My guess is this will be mostly a wash. For the ultrawide? It’s much harder to imagine a world where that’s better.
The same can be said for the selfie cameras which have likely be downgraded in sacrifice to other features being squeezed into this tiny frame.
Real World Photos
Lastly, we have a post on Weibo from Zhou Bao that shows off several real world photos of the Find N5. Zhou describes his post as a “shipment” review, so these phones appear to be the devices being readied for that February 20th launch. We get a good look at the crease once again here, but keep in mind that with all foldables the crease will get worse as it breaks in. These devices appear to be brand new and have likely never been closed.
Go back to images of the OnePlus Open when it was being unboxed and it looked basically creaseless as well. Granted, even when broken in the crease should still be much harder to see than it is on other devices like the Z Fold or Pixel Fold line.
In these images you can also see once again how close to the thickness of a USB C port this devices is. We might honestly be at the point where ports are the primary restriction going foward. Might this lead to a phone with no ports, using only wireless charging and magnetic interfacing for file transfer? I think it’s very possible..
We also see what appears to be a first party case that actually covers and protects the hinge with a little flap which seems to be covered in a leather-like material. I know a lot of people will be happy to see that..
