It's Official: The OnePlus Open 2 Isn't Coming This Year

My recent article and video post ignited a flurry of discussion and speculation regarding the anticipated OnePlus Open 2 foldable phone. I detailed my hypothesis, citing an anonymous tip, the total radio silence from OnePlus on the device, the lack of leaks, and the curious distribution of Oppo Find N5 devices to tech reviewers instead of a potential OnePlus Open successor. These factors led me to believe the Open 2's release was unlikely, a warning I shared with my audience to temper expectations.

While I anticipated potential backlash, the majority of the response was reasonable. However, a subsequent update from OnePlus has confirmed my initial prediction: OnePlus will not be releasing a foldable phone this year. In a statement on their community forum, OnePlus acknowledged the discussions surrounding the Open 2 and thanked users for their enthusiasm. They explained that after careful consideration of timing and next steps in foldable devices, they decided against a release in the current year.

The company did not elaborate on the specific reasons behind this decision. I previously mentioned a source suggesting tariffs as a possible factor, but this remains unconfirmed. Regardless of the reason, the OnePlus Open 2 is officially off the table. Those interested in the device will likely have to explore importing the Oppo Find N5, which was going to be the exact same device. I'm also exploring the possibility of reviewing the Oppo Find N5 and documenting the import process for my audience with the help of Average Dad Tech

OnePlus clarified that this decision does not signify their departure from the foldable category. They may return with a foldable device in the future. For now, Oppo appears to be taking the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5. OnePlus confirmed that the original OnePlus Open will continue to receive software updates, security patches, and after-sales service.
